USA part 2

looks like it is hard to update this page... just because so many things are happening at the moment, and it is a bit hard to get to a computer. i am sitting in my housemate Matt's room with Marisol, Matt and Marguerite. We are a lot of M's in this house. except from the others are called Derek (my roommate), Kyuhee, Stephanie, Kate, Dave, Bryan and Nora. my point proven. haha.

firemen are sexy. we had a firedrill today. they gave us candy. thehe.

anyway. since last I have volunteered at a farm - the Full Belly organic farm, up at the foothills in California. we hang up signs for the festival that is there next weekend - the Hoes Down harvest festival. hanging up signs on trees at the campside and ate nice lunch and vaded in the river = free festival. school has started, and today was pretty wild: compared to England, at least; 5 hours only today. I have enrolled in an Italian class! i had no idea i would ever take italian again in my life and here i am; enrolled in an upper division Italian style and translation class! it was really exciting as well, as i actually could do what we were doing. easier than B Standard in Italy, actually. and my italian has "matured" in a sense as well, i am no longer afraid of it. what might prove difficult however, is making the translation proper English... today i couldn't remember what Secolo was in English for example, making the whole process a bit trickier... but it was still very enjoyable, and perhaps my english will benefit from it as well!! a different story is my Russian class. it is a russian intermediate class, in which the (nice) utshitelnitsa is only speaking in russian, and we are excpected to know a whole deal more than i know i know... so it is a CHALLENGE. but i will try to take that challenge. it is the first time i have heard people actually speak russian for more than 10 minutes at the time. and there are russian native speakers in that class, which i find really unfair. however, one of the ukraine girls didn't know how to spell "forty" (corok) so that made me smug (for the first time in three days, that is).
tonight, after cooking a BIG pot of rice with pesto, Davey (the guys i made chocolate chip oat cookies with) discovered that we have worms in our rice container. ooops. we still ate it. i am signed up for catching compost every thursday at 7 am from around campus, with my roommate. as long as he is waking me up, i think i can cope with the earlyness. i also wanted to volunteer at the student farm, but so far haven't gotten around to do it.
oh, and yesterday we had something that really reminded me of UWCAD. we had a tri-coop meeting, which is pretty much like the assemblies and otherwise compulsory meetings in Italy. Although, assembly and assembly; this one meeting lasted for 3 hours (with 30 people) and i was quite (very) bored by some of the discussions. but i guess it is all making our community thrive and function. :)

cheers.
