Hoes Down Festival

Well well well. a whole lot of things are constantly happening... i just tumbled in from a failed bike ride to wash the dishes at a fundraising even of a local political campaign ( http://www.dontbigboxdavis.org/ ), however, i miscalculated the distance not being very widely known in Davis yet, so i spent half an hour trying to find it realising i was half way only. so i turned. have to translate an italian article for tomorrow and learn russian vocab and go to folk dancing, unfortunately i could not allow myself to spend more time than that. oh well.
because i went to a festival yesterday morning, after having ben to the plant fair and bought an orchid to my roommate Derek and some succulents to plant outside in our cacti garden next to the agave, i have slept quite little, and it is now becoming clear to my brains that i am lacking sleep. however, it was so worth it. and when i say that it got late, well, that is perhaps little exaggerated - Niko, Jonathan and I were of the last people to go to bed and it was only 1.30 am. if you are european i don't think it is that bad at all. we slept next to a river, and it was moonlight the whole night. no tent-it was amazing, but also quite cold early-early in the morning. i was awake quite a bit guess around 4 and had to take on my green stockings and my shorts and my sweater to retain some heat... that might be why i am extra tired... :) the rest of my people slept in the orchard where the drive-in camp site was. skinny-dipping was also an activity - hey, people at home! i swam in a mountain river - i OKTOBER!!! weird to think about the dark that is now closing up on the Arctic and the cold cold wind and rain that will pour down diagonally in Bodoe. enough smugness, i am positive i will be cold here as well. my house is extremely bad isolated, it actually has no isolation i believe... and single windows. and the winter here is supposed to be quite grey and gloomy. back to the river, it was amazing (#2). floating down a relatively streamy river, diving under and opening your eyes under water experiencing how your body fows quick down the river as a fish - or maybe perhaps like a log. naked white water body rafting we called it. when i woke up this morning there were people doing tai chi on the river bank right next to me, as the sun was raising.
Mamma: -Jonathan and Niko went to Paul SImon concert in Berkeley on friday. and Emmy Lou Harris played in San Francisco yesterday, plus Elvis Castello. but - Paul Simon!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaa.
hopefully soon, i will manage to upload some pictures - and there are many. trying to figure out a norwegian site i can upload my pictures to - if you know one tell, me otherwise i'll probably end up using flickr.

contradancing is FUN! the whole festival was very iner-generational - everything from very small kids to grandmothers were there, cows, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, make your own bread from SCRATCH, literally with grinding wheat etc etc, spinning, felting, dyeing, flowers, and various workshops on e.g. organic pestcontrol (Full Belly Farm is an organic farm) and goat farming, bee hives, and much more that i missed because i was in the straw bail castle or swimming or drinking beer or dancing contradance or trying to find warmer clothes.

time for italian, gotta go. more another day. love.
